A long-time collaborator as a performer in several of the company’s creations, Cai has also held various roles within Cas Public, including dancer representative, artistic assistant, and choreographer for certain sections of Love me Tender (2020). After more than a decade with Cas Public, he left the company in 2021.
An unconventional artist in a world of hearing individuals, he now actively pursues work as a choreographer while still occasionally performing. Through the projects of his company, A FICHU TURNING, he has developed a personal style that eloquently and poetically explores questions of language, identity, and inclusion, particularly focusing on a cause close to his heart: Deaf culture. In 2024, he returns to Cas Public to work alongside Hélène as co-artistic director and performer in the choreographic work 9.2. Building on this new experience, Cai Glover will also take on the role of co-creator for the company’s new production, MIKRO.
Cai Glover about 9.2
The work itself was born from a desire to represent certain realities of a hard-of-hearing existence, captured alongside the music of a composer who lost his hearing. Since the company stopped touring the piece, and as my interactions with Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities have grown, I’ve come to realize just how significant this work is. Despite its creation in 2016, it feels even more relevant today. I trust in the conversations that will inevitably arise from bringing 9 back to the stage as 9.2, and I have confidence in my shared role in steering its renewal.
