Project Pinocchio, is choreographer Hélène Blackburn’s latest creation for all audiences. This work for six dancers revisits the timeless tale through the prism of a metamorphosis. As if by enchantment, Pinocchio, a puppet made from rough timber, comes to life. Struggling along, too proud and prone to poor choices, he set out, the picture of naïveté. At the end of an eventful journey of initiation, he ends up freeing himself from the strings that manipulate him until he becomes a full-fledged child. These fantastic and capricious metamorphoses provide exceptional choreographic material; they evoke the torments of the body, the setbacks of the soul, and the changes with which we are all confronted. Without baffle gab, the choreographer deconstructs this tale to extract its subtle essence. On the scale of our shared history, we emerge from these astonishing, vegetable and animal transformations that seem to hold magic. They speak to us, to our inherent relationship with nature, and our expressions are all the richer for it. Do we not use expressions about wooden legs, airheads, goose bumps, pigheads, and eagle eyes, to name just a few ?
